Post-Egalitarianism
This project aims to address the inhumane exploitation of marine life and their habitats by humans. The project proposes the use of CRISPR, a gene- editing technology, to transplant DNA fragments responsible for human-like traits into the DNA of fish, creating a new species capable of mimicking human qualities.
Mirroring human traits in others has been shown to build attunement and help understand “how others feel.” Transferring this to other species might implore humans to reconsider their treatment of other beings.
Addressing fish welfare concerns, this scenario prompts us to contemplate the implications of novel biotechnologies from various ethical and political perspectives:
In an environment characterised by constantly evolving power dynamics between humans and non-humans, how do we establish ethical relationships with other species?
